Outsourcing your marketing without losing control of it

    Short answer

Outsourced marketing means paying an agency, freelancers or a managed service to plan and run some or all of your marketing instead of hiring a team. Most startups should outsource the specialist execution, such as ads, tracking and email, and keep the customer knowledge, the positioning and ownership of every account and dataset. It works when access, ownership and reporting are agreed before the work starts.

Should a startup outsource its marketing?

Most startups should outsource marketing execution until they know which channels pay, because a first marketing hire has to be good at everything at once and a wrong hire costs months, while an outside team can start on proven work and be replaced if it does not deliver; the founders should still own the customer insight and the positioning.

Outsourcing tends to be the right call when you have early signs that people want the product but nobody who knows marketing, when you need several channels running at once, or when you want evidence of what works before committing to a salary. Hiring tends to be right when marketing is a daily part of how you sell, when you need someone in the room with the product and sales teams every day, or when you already know which channel works and need depth in it.

The searches show where the question comes from. People in the US look for a marketing agency for startups far more often than people in the UK, while outsourced marketing as a phrase is searched about as often in both.

The cost comparison between a hire and outside help is worked through line by line on in-house marketing or an agency, and the case for hiring one freelancer is set out on a freelancer or a managed service. Both are worth reading before you decide, because the answer usually turns on breadth: how many channels need to run at the same time.

Keep three things inside the company however much you outsource. The customer conversations, because nobody outside hears what buyers say on sales calls. The positioning, meaning who the product is for and why it wins. And the final say on anything that goes out in your name.

    What does outsourced marketing include?

Outsourced marketing can cover one channel or the whole function: strategy and planning, advertising on Google, Meta and LinkedIn, search and content, email and CRM, landing pages and conversion, outbound, creative, tracking and reporting. What matters is handing over the pieces in the order that makes money soonest.

What to outsource first, in the order we would take it
    1. 1

      Tracking and reporting

Know what each channel returns before spending more on any of them.

    2. 2

      The pages traffic lands on

Fix the page before paying to send people to it.

    3. 3

      One acquisition channel

The one closest to buying intent: search ads where demand exists, outbound or LinkedIn for B2B.

    4. 4

      Email and follow-up

Capture and nurture the leads and customers you already paid to get.

    5. 5

      Content and search

Slower to pay back, so start once the basics are running.

The mix changes with the business. A SaaS startup usually needs sign-ups and demos, so search, landing pages and onboarding email come first; an online shop needs Meta and Google ads, product pages and abandoned-basket email; a B2B services firm needs target lists, outreach and a clean route from lead to meeting. The detail for each is on the SaaS, ecommerce and B2B pages.

Outsourcing done this way frees the people inside rather than replacing them. On a global technology platform's paid media, which Jakub ran as a freelance consultant before he founded the company, campaign management, creative, bids and audiences were all handled outside, which left the client's own team free to run the programme and onboard partners. Over about 11 months the cost per lead fell from $270 to $8.86.[2]

    Agency, freelancer or in-house?

Use a freelancer for one defined channel or project, an agency or managed service when you need several channels run together and continuity if one person leaves, and an in-house hire when marketing is a daily, core function you are ready to manage; many startups start with outside help and hire once they know what works.

Each of those comparisons is worked through in full elsewhere: freelancer, in-house and traditional agency. Whichever you choose, four arrangements decide whether outsourcing works, and all of them are cheaper to set up on the first day than to repair later:

    • Access: give each provider its own login at the lowest level that lets it do the job, never your own password. Google Ads, Google Analytics and Meta all let you add a person or a partner business without handing over ownership.
    • Ownership: keep the ad accounts, analytics, pixel, domain, website and CRM in your company's name, with someone inside as the administrator. In Google Ads only Admin users can give or remove access, in Google Analytics the Administrator role manages users, and on Meta only the business that owns an asset can share it with another business.
    • Reporting: agree before starting what will be reported, how often and from which system, in revenue or qualified leads rather than activity.
    • Leaving: write down what you get back if you part ways, including the accounts, the creative, the data and any documentation.

AI for Marketing is one way to outsource the whole of it. We run the connected work across channels as one managed service: the work that earns attention, the pages that turn it into a lead or a sale, and the follow-up after it. A weekly report shows what changed and what it made, and you approve everything before it goes out.

    What we do

We run your marketing for you and make it pay for itself.

    • First comes a free written breakdown: we look at your site and any numbers you choose to share, with no logins, and show you where the money leaks and the first thing we would fix.
    • Then we fix and run the connected commercial journey: the work that earns attention, the pages that turn it into a lead or sale, and the follow-up that creates the next valuable conversion.
    • Everything is actively managed and improved, with a weekly report showing what changed and what it made, and you approve everything before it goes out.
    • Rolling monthly. No lock-in, cancel any time.

    What it is not

    • Not a single-channel agency: we do whatever makes you money next, not ads forever or SEO forever.
    • Not a junior team on a six-month lock-in: you work with Jakub directly, rolling monthly.
    • Not AI left to run on its own: every piece is reviewed by a person and approved by you.

We also build custom automations, such as reporting digests, lead enrichment and routing, and support triage in tools like n8n, Make and Zapier. They are an add-on to the managed service, not a separate offer.

    More questions

How much does outsourced marketing cost?

It depends on scope far more than on who you hire, so compare quotes on what each one buys every week. The pricing models agencies use, and the few cost figures that can be sourced, are set out on what a marketing agency costs.

What does an outsourced marketing team need from me?

Access to the accounts they will work in, your brand material and product facts, one person who can make decisions quickly, and a short weekly slot to read the report and approve what is next. The more of your customers' own words you can share, from calls, reviews and support tickets, the better the work will be.

Can we outsource marketing and still build a team later?

Yes, and it is a sensible order. If the accounts, data and documentation stay in your name, a first hire inherits working channels and a record of what was tested, rather than starting from nothing.
