Meta and Facebook ads agencies: tracking, creative and honest results

    Short answer

A Meta ads agency plans, builds and runs your ads on Facebook and Instagram. It connects your sales data through the Meta pixel and the Conversions API, writes and tests the creative, decides how much to hand to Advantage+, and moves budget to what sells. Judge it on cost per sale or qualified lead measured in your own store or CRM, over months rather than days.

What does a Meta ads agency do?

A Meta ads agency runs your advertising on Facebook, Instagram and Meta's other placements: it connects your website and sales data to Meta, makes and tests the creative, builds the campaigns, and adjusts budgets, audiences and ads each week against the results that matter to your business.

Tracking comes first, because Meta's delivery system learns from the events you send it. Meta describes the Conversions API as a direct connection between your marketing data, from your server, website platform, app or CRM, and its ad optimisation systems. It recommends running the Conversions API alongside the Meta pixel, which it calls a redundant setup, and says that when the same event arrives both ways you must set up deduplication, most simply by sending a matching event ID and event name from the browser and the server. Without it, one purchase can be counted twice and the system learns from a sale that never happened.[1][2]

Creative is the lever an agency controls most. Meta now does much of the targeting itself, so the ads decide who responds: several angles for each audience, such as the product in use, a customer's own words, an offer or the founder talking to camera, cut into the formats each placement needs and replaced before results fade. Meta's own advice for Advantage+ sales campaigns is to supply a wide variety of creative.[3]

How a Meta ads account is built and then run
    1. 1

      Connect the data

Pixel and Conversions API, deduplicated, with purchases or qualified leads as the events that count.

    2. 2

      Make the creative

Several angles and formats per audience, built from your own products, brand and customers.

    3. 3

      Structure the campaigns

Prospecting to find new buyers, retargeting for recent visitors, and a set budget for tests.

    4. 4

      Let it learn

Leave new ad sets alone until they leave the learning phase, then judge them.

    5. 5

      Adjust every week

Pause what does not sell, scale what does, and line up the next creative test.

    6. 6

      Report against sales

Set Meta's figures beside the orders or qualified leads in your own systems.

The platform choice can matter as much as the creative. On a global technology platform's lead generation, which Jakub ran as a freelance consultant before he founded the company, cost per lead fell from $270 to $8.86 over about 11 months. Most of that fall came in the last quarter, when Meta became the main channel next to LinkedIn: Meta reached the same professional audiences far more cheaply, while LinkedIn on its own still cost about $201 a lead.[4][5]

Cost per lead by quarter: the drop came when Meta took over
    • Q4 2024, LinkedIn only$270
    • Q2 2025, LinkedIn, budget cut$348
    • Q3 2025, LinkedIn on its own$201
    • Q3 2025, Meta and LinkedIn blended$8.86

How do you choose a Facebook ads agency?

Choose a Facebook ads agency that shows you its tracking plan before its creative, works in accounts you own rather than its own, and judges itself on the sales or qualified leads in your records; a portfolio of good-looking ads matters less than whether they can explain how each one was tested.

What will you hand to Advantage+?Whatever tests better in your account, with a reason for each choiceEverything, or nothing, as a rule
How will I know it is working?Cost per sale or lead from your store or CRM, every weekReach, clicks and Meta's own return figure

Keep the ad account, the pixel and your Page in your own business portfolio, and give the agency partner access. Meta lets you give a partner full control or partial access to each asset, and a partner with full control can manage everything but cannot share the asset with another business, because only the organisation that owns it can.[7]

Ask them how they decide what to automate. Meta itself recommends A/B testing Advantage+ audience for almost every campaign type except retargeting, which is a fair standard to hold an agency to: test it against your current audiences and keep whichever sells for less in your own numbers.[8]

Mumshandmade, a premium handmade knitwear brand that had never run paid ads, is an example of that approach. Working as a freelance consultant before he founded the company, Jakub set up the Meta pixel, conversion events, catalogue ads and retargeting from nothing, and tested Advantage+ shopping campaigns against standard prospecting in each market. Weekly Meta return on ad spend peaked at 4.72x in week 12 of a four-month engagement, as Meta reported it.[9]

    What results should I expect?

Expect a learning period first and gradual improvement after it. Meta says an ad set usually leaves its learning phase after about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit, and that cost per result is usually higher and less stable until then, so judge a new campaign on weeks of results, never on its first few days.[10]

What counts as a good result depends on your margins rather than an industry average. Work out the most you can pay for a sale or a qualified lead and still make money, then judge the account against that line. Read Meta's own figures as a starting point: Meta credits a purchase on your site to an ad if it happens within a set number of days after someone saw or clicked it, so its total will not match your store's, and some of those buyers would have bought anyway.[11]

The Mumshandmade account shows what a real results curve looks like. The first week brought two sales while Meta learned, returns built as the retargeting audiences grew, the best week came in week 12, and weekly return fell back below two times spend by week 15 as the budget was scaled. A good agency shows you that whole curve and what it is doing about the fall, not just the best week.[9][12]

AI for Marketing runs Meta ads inside one managed service, with the pages and email flows the ads feed, and reports weekly on what changed and what it made. You approve every ad before it runs. For how the platforms' own AI fits in, see AI advertising.

    What we do

We run your marketing for you and make it pay for itself.

    • First comes a free written breakdown: we look at your site and any numbers you choose to share, with no logins, and show you where the money leaks and the first thing we would fix.
    • Then we fix and run the connected commercial journey: the work that earns attention, the pages that turn it into a lead or sale, and the follow-up that creates the next valuable conversion.
    • Everything is actively managed and improved, with a weekly report showing what changed and what it made, and you approve everything before it goes out.
    • Rolling monthly. No lock-in, cancel any time.

    What it is not

    • Not a single-channel agency: we do whatever makes you money next, not ads forever or SEO forever.
    • Not a junior team on a six-month lock-in: you work with Jakub directly, rolling monthly.
    • Not AI left to run on its own: every piece is reviewed by a person and approved by you.

We also build custom automations, such as reporting digests, lead enrichment and routing, and support triage in tools like n8n, Make and Zapier. They are an add-on to the managed service, not a separate offer.

    More questions

Should I use Advantage+ or build my own audiences?

Test both. Meta recommends A/B testing Advantage+ audience for almost all campaign types except retargeting, and it can reach beyond the audience you suggest when it expects a better result. Keep whichever brings sales or qualified leads for less in your own numbers, and review the choice when your offer or budget changes.[8]

Do I need the Conversions API if my shop already has the pixel?

Yes, if you rely on Meta to find buyers. Meta recommends running the Conversions API with the pixel, and says many integrations do not need a developer, so on many shop platforms it is a setting to switch on rather than a build. Check afterwards that events are deduplicated, or your sales will be counted twice.[1][2]

How much creative does a Meta account need?

Enough to keep at least one new idea in test at all times, and more as spend grows, because the same ad shown to the same people loses its effect. Fewer, clearly different angles teach you more than many small variations of one idea.
